About me
Hello! My name is Katie Sevener, and I am a current graduate student at Appalachian State University. I graduated with my Bachelors in Elementary Education and decided to pursue my Masters in Reading Education.

I live in Boone, North Carolina where I enjoy reading, spending time with loved ones, and being outdoors. I am beyond lucky to be working at Parkway Elementary School as an interim substitute teacher in third grade.

As a teacher, my goal is to develop a love for reading in my students. Reading is not only essential for young minds, but also sparks empathy as they put themselves into the character's shoes.

This blog will follow me as I read various books highlighting diversity and necessary social justice issues. I hope that you read my blog and decide to use some of these books in your own classroom. It is so important to use a variety of books to educate and build empathy and understanding in your classroom community.
The story behind my name
My real name is Katherine but I have always been called Katie. My great grandmother's name was also Katherine. Her and I shared many similarities including our sweet tooth. I have different nicknames based off of who is speaking to me. My dad and brother are the only two people which call me "Kate" or "Kates". This has always been significant to me because I am not as close with them however I feel special when they call me that. My mom and grandma has always called me "Katie" or "Katie cakes" which was coined by my aunt. My friends call me "Katie" or "Katie girl" and my boyfriend calls me "Sevener" whenever he is joking. I love all of the many different names because of the people who say them.
